Farewell Kitten

Today, whilst vacuuming any item in the house that stood still, which was pretty much everything seeing as Small Child was back to preschool and Other Half returned to the world of work, I decided to finally throw away what remained of my eight year old Benefit Kitten. I truly adore Benefit products as they appeal to my kitsch, girly side and will find any excuse to snaffle something up if I walk past one of their counters!

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this particular product, it's a cutesy looking box containing a powder puff filled with fine glitter shimmer. You gently pat it onto any exposed toned and tanned parts before venturing off out to wow your captive audience!

Not only do I have fewer tanned and toned parts that I wish to expose these days but there seems to be a severe lack of social occasion where I have an excuse to get them out! And rather than highlight them, you'll more likely find me checking them for excess wobble, strapping them down, sucking them in or just covering them up. So, as I cleared all my paraphernalia off the dressing table in preparation for a good going over with the Dyson, (life doesn't get anymore exciting than this on a Monday let me tell you!), I tried to think when I might last have used it. Apart from applying liberally for a friends seventies themed fancy dress 40th birthday party in November, I realised that I'd last "puffed with abandon" on our wedding day nearly five years ago!

To misquote Britney, which I'm sure happens a lot, I'm not a girl but definitely a woman; a woman who has to face up to the fact that she can no longer justify this sort of thing gathering dust amongst her vast array of beauty junk.  Lets face it; the woman who used to do quite a good impersonation of a sex kitten has turned into a cat, albeit one who can still sometimes scrub up in order to pass for something resembling feline as opposed to plain old mangy!

And I'm glad that my time of nights out on the tiles have been replaced by nights indoors, curled up on the sofa next to my very own Tom cat! Whilst I still like to get glammed up when we venture out together, I no longer feel I have to sprinkle on the glitter; especially as it rubbed off all over his dinner suit when we got together at the office Christmas party all those years ago! Hhhmm.... perhaps that fairy dust did have magical powers after all!

That's it! That just proves we are torn apart twins or friends or something.
I puffy heart Benefit too.
I buy their Dandelion blusher in bulk because I'm worried that one day they'll stop making it and then I'll never be able to leave the house again!

I feel like a mangy cat too!! And I hoovered today. Wow, the similarities are uncanny. Except you are a teensy bit older than me...sorry...but to make you feel better, I stopped wearing sparkly glitter product on the body several years ago...

What a charming story, I think that Cinderella has met and married her Prince.

I read in the Sunday Times Style section that glitter was prohibited over 40, here was me thinking that my smudge (and it was a smudge, honest gov) of Urban Decay green glitter eyeliner added a certain je ne sais quois to my festive going outness !!!

I love Benefit too, esp the Hoola bronzer and the blue lipgloss

Benefit stuff is certainly more Shimmer than Glitter. Much more classy! (I have some too)

Hard core glitter is known almogst my friends as Slag Dust.

Lovely!

NSM - Like the Tiger thing.. yep... I can feel my stripes coming on as we speak!
Twin Tara - I puffy heart your puffy heart expression! I have used Dandelion and another one too that I forget the name of. Also love Bene Tint - it smells of roses!
CTTF - We live in a (mangy) parallel universe - either that or were still trying to get pine needles and glitter out of the carpet!
Auntie G - I read somewhere that no more G word over 30 but rules are made to be broken! I think a smidge of Urban Decay is allowed at festive times! I use Hoola in the summer and had some of the blue lipgloss - that stuff is very clever.. and tastes good!
Mud - Slag Dust???!!! That made me laugh so hard I nearly blew yoghurt out my nose! Definitely not a good look either!

Better a cat than a cougar! hehe

I love finding things like that which remind me of my pre hubby-pre baby days. As a clutter phobic I always think it's better to get rid of these type of things (if of course they are no longer in use), but what a nice trip down memory lane!

A lovely post, though I must disagree. There is ALWAYS a place for glitter in your life!

I'm 36 this year and have a penchant for the sparkly stuff in the summer when it's bright and I want to sparkle like the sun.

Maybe you can take your kids to a family friendly festival this year - I guarantee you'll see a lot of other sparkly cats!

Oh I loved this post. So funny ad so true. And Benefit is wonderful and gorgeous and girlie and definitely not for mangy cats. :D

YM - Clearing out the old makes way for the new and today I bought some new Benefit make up! Im still sticking to my NY resolve of not buying clothes this month but I gave in to the fairy goddess of Benefit! I got some Posie Tint and Benetint lip balm...and now Im a happy thatgirl!
Part Mummy, Part Me - Thanks for coming over to my place! I did keep back some shimmer body cream for the legs! It may come out in the summer (when the legs do!) or for the 40th party with THE DRESS!
CTTF - Thanks for the award honey - love ya loads! Will post up tomorrow - you are cordially invited down for some Howard stalking!
Jo - Thank you and glad you get my Benefit addiction! You should have seen me today at the counter in Boots! I couldn't stop touching all the stuff - neither could Small Child but at least she has the excuse of being only three and three quarters! What's mine?!

I have just thrown away loads of old old old cosmetics from my former life too! Plus i spent all of monday morning hoovering whilst betty was at nursery and refusing to come home! I feel happier than someone elses child refuses to leave - because sometimes i do find it a tad embarrassing!

Happy new year! x

Never tried it. Maybe I should have?

Elsie - I think Monday must have been national hoovering day! And I have a plan for Small Child if she wont leave nursery - one that involves a trail of chocolate buttons!
Susanna - I think it can class as one of those things that doesn't have to be on a Must Do Before I Die list!
